Delhi: Huge cache of arms seized at IGI airport  ;
In one of the biggest arms haul at Delhi's IGI Airport,
customs official seized 31 firearms from a 24-yearold Delhi businessman
who had de-boarded from a Hyderabad-Delhi-Chicago flight on Tuesday.
Officials
said the arrested businessman had with him 21 pistols and 10 revolvers
and was caught when he tried to cross the green channel. Initial
investigation has revealed that the accused was just a carrier whose job
was to hand over the consignment to another person in Kalkaji in
southeast Delhi.
Delhi Police is suspecting a gun racket involving highprofile people, including businessmen, who were probably the patrons.
"Amandeep
Singh reached Delhi by Air India flight AI-127 from Hyderabad. This
puts a question mark on airport security within the country, as he
reached the Capital with the firearms. We do not know from where the
arms were procured but it is intriguing to know that the flight in which
he arrived from Hyderabad was to leave for Chicago on Tuesday," a
senior Delhi police official said.
The
officer added that the arms were in a stroller baggage and the accused
was trying to skip the green channel when the customs officials stopped
him for questioning. Officials said the firearms were of different
models of pistols and revolvers and can't be imported. During his
interrogations, the accused claimed he was just a carrier of the
consignment and was to receive Rs.20,000 for safely handing over the same to a man in Delhi.
