Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi along with senior leaders of the Congress met President Pranab Mukherjee at 12.30 pm today
A
team of senior lawyers set up by the Supreme Court will today submit a
report of the law and order breakdown that took place at the Patiala
House Court on Wednesday.
Two groups of lawyers
engaged in a brawl on Wednesday outside Patiala House Court where
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student's Union President Kanhaiya
Kumar, arrested on charges of sedition, was to be produced for his
remand hearing.
Kanhaiya Kumar was once again beaten
up by lawyers at Patiala House Court - second time in a week inside the
court premises on Wednesday. Despite the Supreme Court's restrictions on
who can be present in the court during his appearance, a group of
lawyers assembled inside the complex. The lawyers then allegedly went on
to beat up a journalist and JNU students union Chief.
Kanhaiya has been kept in cell number 3 of Tihar jail where even terrorist Afzal Guru was locked in Tihar jail.
Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also meet President Pranab Mukerjee
today to discuss the law and order situation on Delhi. The Delhi
cabinet will meet the President at 2 pm on Thursday. "Delhi Cabinet will
meet Hon'ble President at 2 pm to discuss Delhi law and order situation
(sic)," Kejriwal tweeted on Wednesday.
Ex-DU professor SAR Geelani to be produced in Patiala House court today. Geelani's 2-day police custody will end today.
Kanhaiya
has been kept in jail number 3 of Tihar jail which is the same cell
where 2001 Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru was kept. He is also
kept under heavy security and CCTV surveillance.
The JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on charges of sedition - was sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Three
office-bearers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) unit of ABVP on
Wednesday resigned from the student wing of the BJP strongly protesting
against the Centres handling of the raging row at the premier university
and "legitimising" actions of right wing fascist forces.
The
Bar Council of India has condemned the attack on journalists in Patiala
House court premises over the ongoing outrage and debate on JNU
controversy. President of the Bar Council of India has apologised for
the unruly behaviour of some advocates and has sought a report from
Patiala House Court on this matter.
