Chinese tech company Xiaomi on Tuesday announced its next generation Mi TV in China. Contrary to earlier reports, the next gen Mi TV does not seem to be a successor to the Mi TV 2 that was launched last year. Rather, it's a toned down variant of the same.
The next gen Mi TV will go on sale starting March 31 via mi.com exclusively in China (for now) at a price of 1,999 CNY (roughly $322).
Let's take a look at the specifications of this new model. The new Mi TV features a 40-inch full HD LED panel display and is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB DDR3 RAM.
It comes with 8GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 4.4-based MIUI TV OS and will be upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The new Mi TV comes with Dolby virtual surround sound and can be used as a normal HDTV, an Android-powered screen or an Android gaming console. The company had earlier taken to its Twitter handle to tease 'The next Mi TV' asking on-lookers what they'd like to do on it: watch movies or play games.
The original Mi TV 2 comes with a larger 49-inch 4K display and has a 1.45GHz quad-core MediaTek MStar 6A918 CPU coupled with 2GB RAM beating under the hood. It is expected to be launched in India, sometime during the second half of 2015, at a price of Rs.40,000.
