India Thanks to an 'oracle', Warangal shops run out of stock as women go on a bangle buying spree ;

In a bizzare incident, thousands of women in Warangal in Telangana went on a bangle buying spree on Thursday, as a result of which, bangle stores in the three north Telangana districts ran out of stocks.
Interestingly, what triggered the incident was a rumour that married women should wear bangles of nine different colours in order protect their sons and husbands from an impending bad omen.
According to a report published in The Times of India , the rumour took birth after a local deity, reportedly, conveyed the message through an oracle that married women should wear bangles of nine different colours before Ugadi to keep their sons safe. The report said that the rumour spread across the entire district by the noon.

Even women from faraway tribal lands rushed to bangle stores in towns. The report quoted local bangle sellers telling that they had sold all their bangles, including the old stocks that had been lying in godowns for the last five years.
The mad rush for bangles intensified as women, cutting across religious and caste lines, in Karimnagar district too joined after a similar rumour spread through the neighbouring Khammam district. The rumour said that all married men were at risk and that women should wear 'navrangi' bangles to ensure their safety.
The report also quoted a woman in Karimnagar saying "Since Friday is Amavasya and women should not wear new bangles on that day, we were left with no time to sport the navrangi bangles. Today is the only day left to fulfill the wish of the goddess."
These three districts witnessed such hue and cry that police had to intervene at several places  to take situation under control.
