Google's map service has received a new update. The update will now enable users of the app to act as tour guides by allowing them to post their reviews of venues and businesses they have visited or come in contact with.
Called Local Guides, this feature has been described by Google as a large collection of top reviewers who will allow many others to benefit from their reviews.
Some of the advantages of Local Guides will be access to a monthly news letter which will be featured on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus pages. Aside from this, one will also be sent annual gifts as part of 'high-quality contributions' to the service.
This move by Google is being seen as a challenge to Yelp's 'Elite' program which rewards people for their reviews as well.
It was only last month that Facebook launched a similar feature which hands out tips about places that one might visit.
