Sunanda murder case: SIT to quiz Tharoor on IPL angle;

Sunanda Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor.Sunanda Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor. Failing to unravel the IPL angle in the murder mystery of Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the Delhi Police has summoned the Congress MP on Thursday at their office in South Delhi's Vasant Vihar area.
This time, they want to quiz him on financial details pertaining to IPL Kochi franchise Rendezvous Sports World (RSW).
The IPL controversy exploded in 2010 when Tharoor was the minister of state for external affairs. Tharoor faced allegations that he had "misused" his office to ensure Rs.70 crore-equivalent to 18 per cent equity in IPL Kochi franchise RSW- was paid to Sunanda.

Sunanda, who was only his friend at that time, had refuted the allegations and also denied that she was acting as a front for Tharoor in the Kochi IPL franchise. But soon after the controversy broke, she quit RSW after deciding to return her free equity, worth Rs.70 crore, to the franchise to protect Tharoor from the allegations.

Delhi Police Commissioner B. S. Bassi said that the SIT is analysing statements of all witnesses who have been examined so far and Tharoor will be quizzed again on Thursday because SIT needs clarification on certain points from him. "There are many things emerging from the analysis of the statements given so far but we will be able to reach a conclusion only after the investigation is over," he added.
Tharoor was questioned for around three-and-a-half hours on January 19.
However, Bassi refused to share any details, saying that any revelation would hamper the investigation. "The IPL angle is being looked into in connection with the murder of Sunanda Pushkar. The IPL angle is relevant and will be probed as the objective is to arrive at the truth," Bassi added.
"We have recorded the statements of all the witnesses, but we are still not able to get financial details of RSW. Apart from statements, forensic evidence will be crucial as well as the footage from CCTV cameras," a source said.
