South Indian actress Pooja Gandhi, who is a big draw in Kannada and Tamil movies, is reportedly absconding after her car rammed a two-wheeler and seriously injured the rider.
The police are now on the lookout for the actress who, incidentally, has switched off her mobile phones.
The accident took place in South Bengaluru's Jayanagar on Thursday evening when the actress was returning home with her family members. Her high-end car rammed into a two-wheeler and its rider Varsha (50) fell down.
Subsequently, the victim's family lodged a police complaint against Pooja, accusing her of negligent driving. The police are probing to find the cause of the accident.
The police said: "Pooja has switched off all her mobile phones. Her residence is also locked. Unless the actor cooperates with us, we cannot get to the bottom of the case. We will be issuing her a notice to appear before us so we can record the statement."
Incidentally, Pooja's latest movie Abhinetri (inspired by the life and works of veteran south superstar late Kalpana), which released last month, is a hit and raking in the moolah at the turnstiles.
The actress has not only produced the movie but also reprised Kalpana's role in it. One of the top stars of Kannada cinema, Pooja has acted in over 40 movies in Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada.
A Punjabi, who relocated to Bengaluru to pursue her career in the southern glam world, Pooja shot to limelight after essaying roles in multiple blockbusters.
She even had a brief stint in Karnataka politics at the peak of her popularity. She unsuccessfully contested the Karnataka Assembly polls in 2013 and returned to films through her production venture Abhinetri.
The police have appealed to the Kannada film fraternity to provide details of the actress' whereabouts and help them complete the probe.
