The eight Rohtak gangrape and murder accused have revealed the story of their barbarity during police remand. A ninth accused, Sombir, 22, who was absconding, has reportedly committed suicide in Delhi's Bawana area after consuming poison on Monday evening.
The brutal gangrape and murder of the 28-year-old mentally-challenged woman had shocked the nation and the arrested were sent to eight-day police remand on Tuesday. They are being questioned by the Rohtak police. Sources said that the accused were questioned till 2 am on Monday night by members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The arrested are identified as Santosh Nepali, Rajesh alias Ghuchdu, Sunil alias Sheela, Sarwar alias Billu, Manvir, Sunil alias Mata, Pawan and Pramod alias Padam.
Meanwhile, only four among the arrested have confessed that they were involved in the brutal murder of the deceased.
"Pata nahi kya ho gya tha hamein. Dimag hi kam nahi kar rha tha. Jo hua wo nashe me hua or hota chala gaya. Bawle paani ne pagal kar dia, budhi bhrast ho gai thi saahab (We do not know what happened to us. We were not in our senses. We were drunk and the madness went on!)," one of the accused reportedly told the police.
Another accused said they had no plans to murder the woman initially but later lost their senses.
"We did not want to kill her. We wanted to enjoy. Don't know why we destroyed everything," one of the accused reportedly told the police.
The police are trying to establish whether the accused had chopped off her arms as both of them were missing from the mutilated body.
Police said the portion of the victim's body between her abdomen and her head had no flesh. Dogs were seen eating the flesh when a Gaddi Kheri resident found the body dumped outside the village. The police produced the eight accused in court on Tuesday.
The executive committee of Rohtak bar association has said none of its members will defend the accused. The police on Wednesday decided to recreate the crime scene to collect evidence.
The eight accused were arrested on Monday. The victim's mutilated body was found from Gaddi Kheri village on February 4.
